Description: While legislative data is publicly available, it can often be difficult to interpret and inaccessible without technical expertise. Project IL-Legible attempts to make the legislative data of the Illinois General Assembly easier to understand while exploring the relationship between bill sponsorship and campaign contributions received by Illinois legislators. By combining legislation data with campaign finance records, this project provides visualizations and summary metrics that show how bill sponsors differ in their legislative activity and the demographics of their campaign donations. Project IL-Legible allows users to interact with several aspects of legislative activity in Illinois, including which legislators sponsor the most bills, differences in legislative effectiveness across sponsors, campaign donation statistics across sponsors, and how often bills successfully move through the legislative process.
